About the Role: Laboratory Services Director

AMERICAN HOSPITAL is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Laboratory Services Director to lead our state-of-the-art laboratory operations in Dubai. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and collaborating closely with the Chief of Pathology/Laboratory, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a superior, cost-effective laboratory service that precisely meets the evolving needs of our medical staff and executes a strategic plan for sustainable growth. This is a critical leadership position for a seasoned professional, an adept Laboratory Manager or a forward-thinking Clinical Laboratory Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive Quality Management (QM) plan with Lab Leadership, identifying and driving improvement opportunities.
• Develop and maintain a lab-specific dashboard aligned with AMERICAN HOSPITAL DUBAI’s strategic goals for service, quality, growth, cost, and people.
• Direct Laboratory Quality Improvement (QI) activities and serve as the primary liaison with the Performance Improvement (PI) Department.
• Ensure the development and adherence to policies and procedures critical for patient safety and transfusion service functions.
• Actively participate in hospital-wide Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and committees.
• Foster and promote a safe, ethical, and confidential working environment within the Laboratory.
• Oversee the strategic planning and management of Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) requirements for the Laboratory.
• Evaluate and optimize Laboratory layout and space requirements to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and compliance with international standards such as Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP).
• Provide robust support to all levels of Laboratory staff, fostering morale, ensuring a positive working environment, and effectively delegating management responsibilities to supervisory staff.
• Formulate and execute a strategic plan for laboratory outreach and marketing of services to expand our reach and impact.
• Manage and direct Laboratory testing costs and staffing levels through effective benchmarking and resource allocation.
• Implement and maintain rigorous standards for all accreditations.
• Contribute essential input for the planning and staffing of Laboratory services within AMERICAN HOSPITAL DUBAI’s Clinics.
• Identify and support educational and developmental opportunities for staff to enhance skills and career progression.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proven experience in laboratory management or a similar leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and accreditation standards (JCIA, CAP).
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
• Strong understanding of financial management, including CAPEX and operational budgeting.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in laboratory outreach and marketing is advantageous.
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
