Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our core engineering team in Algiers, Algeria. You will design, build, and scale the backend systems that power Broco's financial infrastructure platform. This role demands deep expertise in distributed systems, API architecture, and data-intensive applications. You will work at the intersection of fintech innovation and real-world financial inclusion, contributing directly to products that serve millions of users across francophone Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices architecture supporting financial transactions and supply chain integrations.
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs and event-driven systems that connect Broco's platform with partners, payment networks, and third-party services.
• Ensure system reliability, security, and performance across all backend infrastructure, implementing monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, and data teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Lead code reviews, architectural decisions, and technical mentoring for junior and mid-level engineers on the team.
• Contribute to database design and optimization, working with both SQL and NoSQL data stores to handle high-throughput transactional workloads.
• Implement and enforce security best practices for handling sensitive financial data, including encryption, authentication, and compliance with relevant regulations.
• Participate in CI/CD pipeline development and infrastructure-as-code practices to streamline deployment and reduce time-to-production.
• Research and evaluate new tools, frameworks, and technologies to continuously improve the engineering stack and development velocity.

Requirements

Hard Skills

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering, with a proven track record of building production-grade systems.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, Node.js, or Ruby.
• Deep experience with microservices architecture, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and distributed system design patterns.
• Solid understanding of database technologies — PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis — including query optimization, indexing, and replication strategies.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with API gateway management, rate limiting, authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, JWT), and API versioning strategies.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
• Understanding of financial systems, payment processing, or fintech domains is a strong advantage.
