Senior Escalator & Elevator Engineer - Metro Rail Systems (Cairo Metro Line 3)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Escalator & Elevator Engineer to lead and optimize the maintenance operations for vertical transportation systems across Cairo Metro Line 3. This critical infrastructure role demands deep technical expertise in escalator and elevator systems, strong knowledge of international safety standards (EN 81, EN 115), and proven ability to manage complex maintenance programs in a high-availability public transit environment. You will be responsible for ensuring maximum uptime, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of SOPs for one of Egypt's busiest metro lines.

Core Responsibilities

• Oversee all preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities for escalators and elevators across Cairo Metro Line 3 stations and depots.
• Develop, implement, and continuously refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with OEM specifications, EN 81/EN 115 standards, and local regulatory requirements.
• Manage maintenance planning and scheduling using CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP PM) to achieve >99% system availability targets.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for critical failures, implement corrective actions, and track effectiveness through KPI dashboards.
• Coordinate with OEMs (Schindler, Otis, ThyssenKrupp, KONE, Mitsubishi) for technical support, spare parts strategy, and warranty management.
• Supervise a team of technicians and junior engineers; conduct technical training, competency assessments, and safety briefings.
• Manage the spare parts inventory strategy, including critical spares identification, procurement planning, and vendor qualification.
• Ensure full compliance with Egyptian National Railways (ENR) regulations, Ministry of Transport directives, and international safety certifications.
• Prepare and present monthly performance reports covering MTBF, MTTR, availability, safety incidents, and budget adherence.
• Drive modernization and upgrade projects for aging equipment, including technology refreshes (VVVF drives, destination dispatch, IoT monitoring).

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited university.
• Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in escalator and elevator maintenance, with at least 4 years in a senior/lead role within a metro, railway, or high-rise commercial environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent certification recognized in Egypt.
• In-depth knowledge of EN 81 (elevators), EN 115 (escalators), and relevant Egyptian codes.
• Proven experience with CMMS/EAM platforms (Maximo, SAP PM, or similar) for work order management, asset hierarchy, and reliability reporting.
• Strong track record of managing OEM relationships, contract administration, and warranty claims.
• Demonstrated ability to lead RCA investigations using structured methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA).
• Fluent in English and Arabic (written and verbal); technical documentation in English is mandatory.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Cairo Metro or similar heavy rail transit systems (Lines 1, 2, or monorail projects).
• Certification in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), CMRP, or ISO 55001 Asset Management.
• Familiarity with IoT-based condition monitoring systems (vibration analysis, thermal imaging, remote diagnostics).
• Project management certification (PMP, Prince2) for capital upgrade projects.
• Knowledge of destination dispatch systems, regenerative drives, and smart elevator grouping algorithms.
