Signaling Technician
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Signaling Technician to join our team and ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of signaling systems on Cairo Metro Line 3. This role is critical to maintaining the highest standards of railway safety and operational continuity across the line, including both depot workshops (Abassia and S). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical and electronic systems, a deep understanding of railway signaling principles, and a commitment to proactive maintenance and rapid fault resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on all signaling equipment, including track circuits, signals, point machines, and interlocking systems, to minimize downtime and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex faults in signaling systems using specialized test equipment, schematic diagrams, and diagnostic software.
- Repair or replace defective components, such as relays, transformers, cables, and circuit boards, ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and functional tests of signaling installations in both the mainline and depot workshop environments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, logs, and reports, documenting all actions taken, parts used, and system status.
- Collaborate with other technical teams, including track, electrification, and operations, to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve cross-functional issues.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), permit-to-work procedures, and isolation of equipment before maintenance.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, and testing of new or upgraded signaling equipment as required.
- Respond promptly to signaling failures or alarms, providing rapid on-site or remote support to restore service with minimal disruption.
- Stay updated on the latest signaling technologies, best practices, and safety standards relevant to metro and heavy rail systems.
Required Qualifications
- Technical diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in signaling maintenance, preferably in a metro, railway, or transit environment.
- Strong knowledge of signaling systems, including track circuits, axle counters, signals, points, and interlocking (relay or computer-based).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Experience with diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signaling test equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate with diverse teams.
- Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
Preferred Skills
- Certification in railway signaling or relevant safety training (e.g., PTS, COSS).
- Experience with CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) or ERTMS systems.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and remote monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of depot workshop operations and maintenance planning.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office and maintenance management software (CMMS).
