Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Role Overview

Wood is seeking a highly skilled Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our engineering team. This role is critical in ensuring the integrity and reliability of industrial assets through advanced risk assessment methodologies. As an RBI SME, you will lead the development and implementation of inspection strategies that optimize safety, reduce operational downtime, and extend asset life. Core Responsibilities

• Develop and implement Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs in accordance with industry standards such as API 580, API 581, and ASME.
• Conduct detailed risk assessments for pressure vessels, piping systems, storage tanks, and other static equipment.
• Perform probability of failure (PoF) and consequence of failure (CoF) analyses to prioritize inspection activities.
• Collaborate with inspection, maintenance, and operations teams to integrate RBI findings into asset integrity management plans.
• Review and update inspection intervals, methods, and scopes based on risk rankings and historical data.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and inspection personnel.
• Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards for asset integrity.
• Prepare and present technical reports, risk matrices, and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in RBI and asset integrity management.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in inspection, integrity management, or reliability engineering within the oil and gas, petrochemical, or power generation industries.
• At least 5 years of dedicated experience in Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) implementation.
• Certification as an API 580 Risk-Based Inspector is required.
• Strong knowledge of API 581 and other relevant standards.
• Proficiency in RBI software tools (e.g., Meridium, IMS, or similar).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.

Preferred Skills

• Master’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
• Certification as an API 510, API 570, or API 653 inspector.
• Experience with Fitness-for-Service (FFS) assessments per API 579.
• Knowledge of Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) management and mitigation strategies.
• Familiarity with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Experience in project management and leading cross-functional teams.
