About the Role

Join the World Health Organization (WHO) as a UN Volunteer Report Developer and Data Analyst supporting the Maghreb region, based in Tunisia. This role sits at the intersection of public health data intelligence and technical reporting, directly contributing to WHO's mandate as the directing and coordinating authority for international public health. You will design, develop, and maintain automated reporting solutions and analytical dashboards that empower evidence-based decision-making across health programs.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy interactive reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent BI platforms.
  • Build and maintain ETL pipelines to integrate data from multiple health information systems, surveys, and external sources.
  • Perform advanced data analysis, statistical modeling, and trend detection to support epidemiological monitoring and program evaluation.
  • Collaborate with technical officers, epidemiologists, and program managers to translate analytical requirements into scalable data products.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance standards aligned with WHO data policies and UN volunteer guidelines.
  • Document technical specifications, data dictionaries, and user guides for all reporting solutions.
  • Provide training and technical support to country office staff on self-service analytics tools.
  • Contribute to regional knowledge products, including situation reports, health profiles, and data visualizations for public dissemination.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Public Health Informatics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in report development, data analysis, or business intelligence.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
  • Strong expertise in at least one leading BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Programming skills in Python or R for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization (pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, ggplot2).
  • Experience with health data standards (DHIS2, ICD, FHIR) is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English and French (working languages of WHO Maghreb). Arabic is a strong asset.
  • Eligibility for UN Volunteer assignment (age 25+, valid passport, commitment to volunteer values).

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working with UN agencies, international NGOs, or national health ministries.
  • Knowledge of GIS mapping tools (QGIS, ArcGIS) for spatial health analysis.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and containerized deployments.
  • Background in infectious disease surveillance, immunization monitoring, or health systems strengthening.
  • Certification in data analytics, BI, or public health informatics.

What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out

This UN Volunteer assignment offers a rare chance to apply advanced data engineering and analytics skills directly to global health impact in the Maghreb. You will work within WHO's technical ecosystem, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across country offices and regional hubs. The role provides exposure to high-stakes public health data challenges — from outbreak response to health system performance — while building a portfolio of mission-critical analytics products. UN Volunteers receive a monthly volunteer living allowance, health insurance, and access to UN learning platforms. The duty station in Tunisia offers a strategic base for regional engagement with North African health systems.
