Trackway Engineer | Senior Railway Infrastructure

Role Summary

SYSTRA, a global leader in engineering and consultancy with over 10,300 employees, seeks a Senior Trackway Engineer to join its public transport and sustainable mobility division. This role focuses on the design, analysis, and oversight of railway trackway systems for major infrastructure projects. The position demands deep technical expertise in track geometry, alignment design, and construction methodologies within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead trackway engineering design for metro, light rail, and heavy rail projects from concept through detailed design stages.
• Develop and review track alignment, geometry, and structural interface calculations ensuring compliance with international standards (EN, AREMA, UIC).
• Coordinate with civil, structural, and systems engineering teams to integrate trackwork with viaducts, tunnels, stations, and depots.
• Prepare technical specifications, bills of quantities, and construction method statements for track installation and renewal.
• Provide technical support during tender evaluation, contractor selection, and construction supervision phases.
• Conduct risk assessments, value engineering studies, and design optimization for trackway lifecycle performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal technical guidelines and knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Railway Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in railway trackway design and engineering.
• Proven track record on major public transport infrastructure projects (metro, tram, high-speed rail).
• Proficiency in track design software (e.g., PAMS, RailSys, Bentley OpenRail, AutoCAD Civil 3D).
• Strong knowledge of track components: rails, sleepers, fastenings, ballast, slab track systems, switches & crossings.
• Familiarity with EN 13848, EN 13231, EN 13103, and relevant Egyptian codes.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration or chartered status (CEng, PE) is highly desirable.

• Track Geometry & Alignment Design: Horizontal/vertical alignment, transition curves, cant design, clearance analysis.
• Track Structural Analysis: Rail stress management, buckling prevention, fastener stiffness modeling, slab track design.
• Construction & Maintenance Planning: Track laying methods, tamping/grinding strategies, possession planning, lifecycle costing.
• Project Delivery: FIDIC contracts, design management, interdisciplinary coordination, quality assurance (ISO 9001).
• Technical Communication: Technical report writing, design review facilitation, stakeholder presentations.
