Role Purpose
Drive the technical strategy and delivery of payment platforms, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate payment gateways, enhance transaction processing, and support innovative fintech initiatives aligned with Vodafone's digital transformation agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain robust payment processing systems supporting multiple currencies, payment methods, and regulatory environments
- Lead integration projects with payment service providers (PSPs), acquirers, and banking partners using APIs, SDKs, and messaging standards (ISO 8583, ISO 20022)
- Optimize transaction success rates, latency, and error handling through advanced monitoring, analytics, and automation
- Ensure PCI-DSS compliance, tokenization, encryption, and fraud prevention measures across all payment flows
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and establish technical standards for payment microservices
- Collaborate with product, security, and operations teams to define requirements for new payment features and digital wallet capabilities
- Troubleshoot complex production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures
- Evaluate emerging payment technologies (Open Banking, CBDC, BNPL, crypto rails) for strategic adoption
Required Technical Skills
- 5+ years experience in payment systems engineering, fintech platforms, or transaction processing
- Expertise in Java, Python, or Go for high-throughput backend services
- Deep knowledge of REST/gRPC APIs, message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and event-driven architectures
- Hands-on experience with payment gateways (Adyen, Stripe, Worldpay, FIS) and card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, local schemes)
- Strong grasp of database design (PostgreSQL, Oracle, Redis) for financial data integrity and concurrency control
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with PCI-DSS, PSD2, GDPR, and local financial regulations
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Proven track record delivering mission-critical payment solutions in telecom, banking, or e-commerce
- Certifications such as PCI Professional, AWS Solutions Architect, or Certified Payments Professional are advantageous
- Experience with real-time fraud detection, 3D Secure 2.0, SCA, and tokenization frameworks
