Head of Project Engineering (Start-Up Assistance)
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Head of Project Engineering (Start-Up Assistance) to lead the engineering activities for a major LNG mega project based in Ras Laffan, Qatar. This is a critical role that requires deep expertise in project start-up, commissioning, and handover within the oil and gas industry. The successful candidate will oversee a multidisciplinary engineering team, ensuring project milestones are met on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the project engineering team during the start-up phase, coordinating with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Develop and implement engineering work plans, schedules, and budgets aligned with project objectives.
- Oversee design reviews, technical evaluations, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure seamless integration of commissioning, start-up, and handover processes across all engineering disciplines.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule and cost targets.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.
- Liaise with client representatives, government bodies, and third-party auditors to facilitate project approvals and certifications.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical preferred). Master’s degree or PMP certification is an advantage.
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in project engineering within the oil and gas sector, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Proven experience in LNG or large-scale gas processing projects is essential.
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies, engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Project, Primavera P6), and industry codes (ASME, API, ISO).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work in high-pressure environments and manage multicultural teams.
- Other Requirements: Willingness to work on a 12-week rotational basis at the Ras Laffan site. Valid engineering license and familiarity with Qatar’s regulatory environment are highly desirable.
Contract Details
Contract Duration: 36 months (renewable based on project performance).
Rotation: 12 weeks on / 4 weeks off (or similar).
Location: Ras Laffan, Qatar (site office).
