Senior Electrical Engineer - Transport & Mobility Projects | SYSTRA Egypt - Cairo

About the Role

This pivotal role focuses on delivering complex electrical engineering solutions for major transportation infrastructure projects including metro systems, railways, tramways, and sustainable mobility initiatives across the Middle East and Africa region.

The successful candidate will lead electrical design packages, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with international standards (IEC, EN, NFPA) and local Egyptian codes. This position offers the opportunity to work on landmark projects shaping the future of urban mobility in Egypt and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage electrical engineering design for transport infrastructure projects including power distribution, traction power, signaling power supply, lighting, earthing, and lightning protection systems
• Develop and review technical specifications, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, load calculations, and equipment datasheets for HV/MV/LV systems
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, signaling, telecommunications, and rolling stock disciplines to ensure integrated design delivery
• Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, harmonic analysis, and arc flash assessments using ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or equivalent software
• Prepare and review tender documents, technical evaluations, and contractor submittals for electrical packages
• Provide technical support during construction, testing, commissioning, and handover phases including site inspections and witness testing
• Ensure designs comply with IEC 60364, EN 50121, NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 130, Egyptian Code for Electrical Installations, and project-specific standards
• Mentor and supervise junior electrical engineers and CAD technicians, conducting design reviews and quality assurance checks
• Participate in value engineering exercises, risk assessments (HAZOP, FMEA), and safety case development
• Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, and third-party stakeholders for technical approvals and permits

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Sc. or B.Eng.); Master's degree preferred
• Experience: Minimum 10+ years of post-graduate experience in electrical engineering for transportation, infrastructure, or heavy industrial projects; minimum 5 years in a senior/lead capacity
• Transport Sector Expertise: Proven track record on metro, railway, tramway, or high-speed rail projects; experience with traction power systems (750V DC, 1500V DC, 25kV AC) highly desirable
• Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with BIM workflows (Navisworks, BIM 360)
• Standards Knowledge: In-depth understanding of IEC, EN, IEEE, NFPA, and Egyptian electrical codes
• Professional Registration: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred; membership in IEEE, IET, or Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers
• Language: Fluent in English (written and spoken); Arabic proficiency required for local coordination
• Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities; proven ability to deliver under tight deadlines in multicultural environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SYSTRA or similar international engineering consultancies (EGIS, Systra, AECOM, WSP, Parsons, Jacobs)
• Previous work on Cairo Metro Lines (Line 3, Line 4, Monorail) or Egyptian National Railways projects
• Knowledge of RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) analysis and EN 50126/50128/50129
• Experience with SCADA systems, substation automation (IEC 61850), and smart grid technologies
• Project management certification (PMP, Prince2) an advantage
