Senior AI & Automation Engineer (VOIS)

Role Overview

VOIS (Vodafone Intelligent Solutions), the strategic technology arm of Vodafone Group Plc, is seeking a Senior AI & Automation Engineer to drive intelligent automation and artificial intelligence initiatives across the organization. This role sits at the intersection of advanced machine learning, process automation, and large-scale telecommunications infrastructure, delivering innovative solutions that transform operations and customer experiences globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy production-grade AI/ML models for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, natural language processing, and computer vision use cases
• Architect and implement end-to-end automation pipelines using RPA, low-code/no-code platforms, and custom scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Engineering, DevOps, Business Units) to identify automation opportunities and define technical requirements
• Build and maintain MLOps pipelines for model training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining using tools like MLflow, Kubeflow, or Airflow
• Optimize model performance and inference latency for high-throughput, low-latency production environments
• Establish best practices for AI governance, model explainability, bias detection, and compliance with data privacy regulations
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical documentation, code reviews, and knowledge sharing sessions
• Evaluate emerging AI/ML technologies (LLMs, generative AI, AutoML) and prototype proof-of-concepts for business value assessment

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or related quantitative field
• 5+ years of professional experience in AI/ML engineering, automation engineering, or data science roles
• Strong proficiency in Python and major ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Hugging Face Transformers)
• Hands-on experience with RPA platforms (UiPath, Blue Prism, Automation Anywhere, or Power Automate)
• Solid understanding of MLOps practices: containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD (GitLab CI, Jenkins, ArgoCD), and model serving (TensorFlow Serving, TorchServe, Triton)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and managed AI services (SageMaker, Vertex AI, Azure ML)
• Strong SQL and NoSQL database skills; familiarity with big data tools (Spark, Kafka, Airflow)
• Proven track record of delivering AI/automation projects from ideation to production in enterprise environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in telecommunications, network analytics, or IoT data streams
• Knowledge of generative AI, LLMs, RAG architectures, and prompt engineering
• Certifications: AWS Machine Learning Specialty, Azure AI Engineer, Google Cloud ML Engineer, or UiPath Advanced Developer
• Contributions to open-source AI/ML projects or publications in relevant conferences
• Familiarity with AIOps, observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK), and site reliability engineering principles
